UNIT MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS

Unit One Pagers: See instructions in your unit packet or on the APHG blog. You must bring your assignment on the day of the test. Electronic copies will not be accepted. 


You will receive 1 extra credit point towards your multiple choice score - 1 point equals approximately 2% of your grade

FIRST SEMESTER OPPORTUNITIES

By completing a combination of the assignments below you will be able to raise your final semester grade by 5% or a half grade step. You can only complete enough assignments to equal a 5% increase however I encourage you to read, watch films, and learn as much as you can. 
First Semester Assignments Due:
 


Film Reviews = 1%
​You can watched a film from the approved film list below and then write a one page paper on how that film illustrated 3 or more different chapters of Geography (think about how it connects to the units we have studied in our year). Your one page film review must be 1 inch margins, 12 point font, with 1.5 space in between the lines. You must include the title and date of the film as part of your heading for the one page paper.

Book Review = 2 %
You can choose to read any of the books listed below and write a two page book review on how the book illustrated principles of Geography or how it depicted life in a foreign country. Your two page book review must be 1 inch margins, 12 point font, with 1.5 space in between the lines. You must include the title and author of the book as part of your heading for the two page paper. 
The books below that have an * next to them I own copies of that you can check out from my classroom bookshelf. The Liberty High School Library and King County Library System has most if not all of the other books as well.

Web Quests = 1%

  1. Pop and Folk Landscapes Webquest: Use the link of the APHG Extra Credit page to complete the webquest about Pop and Folk landscapes. This assignment will not be printed you will turn it in electronically. 

  2. Cultural Appropriation Webquest: Use the link of the APHG Extra Credit page to complete the webquest about Cultural Appropriation. This assignment will not be printed you will turn it in electronically. 

  3. Agriculture Webquest: Use the link of the APHG Extra Credit page to complete the webquest about Agriculture. This assignment will not be printed you will turn it in electronically. 



 Projects = 2%

For each project you complete you can earn a 2% increase. You will find a link to each of these projects on my website under the link APHG Extra Credit. A description of each project is below. Projects should be printed out. 

  1. Standard of Living: East v. Western Europe Comparison Chart and Questions: Follow the instructions on the spreadsheet (on the APHG Extra Credit page) to complete your research about countries in Eastern and Western Europe. Then below or on the backside of your spreadsheet answer the following questions:

    1. Rank the countries from highest to lowest standard of living.

    2. Which single statistic do you think has the largest impact on a country’s standard of living?

    3. Based on the statistics in the west and in the east, would you personally rather in the west or in the east? Why?

  2. Culture Research: Choose one of the macro-cultural regions we identified in Unit 3 (North America is not an option). A bibliography in MLA or APA format must be included with your project. Create a report (up to 5 pages - double spaced) that includes the following: 

    1. 2 aspects of folk culture and explain how they are related to either the environment, religion, or other (why are these practices found here)

    2. 2 aspects of contemporary popular culture and explain how they are related to either that environment, religion, or other (why are these practices found here)

    3. 1 challenge or threat to folk culture in this region

  3. Case Study on Balkanization: Using the link on the APHG Extra Credit page read the articles about the rise of nationalism and fall of Yugoslavia. Use the articles to complete the case study (on the APHG Extra Credit page).

  4. Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt: Download the assignment from the APHG Extra Credit page and complete a scavenger hunt at your local grocery store. You may have to do some work at home to look up some products after you visit the store.

  5. Case Study on Vanishing Cultures: Watch the Ted Talk “Dreams from Endangered Cultures” by Wade Davis and use it to complete the Case Study on Vanishing Cultures. You will be adding details to a variety of maps and responding to a variety of quotes from the video. Your answers should be in complete sentences.​
